(CNA Taipei, June 30) - Boston Red Sox's 24-year-old Taiwanese prospect Cheng Tsung-che started today in Major League Baseball (MLB), hitting one single and scoring one run, helping the Red Sox defeat the Washington Nationals 6-3 and extend their winning streak to five games.

Cheng Tsung-che started today batting ninth and playing shortstop for the Red Sox. In his first at-bat in the bottom of the second inning, he hit a single to center field off Nationals starting pitcher Miles Mikolas. Teammates continued the offense, scoring runs through a series of hits and a sacrifice fly.

Cheng Tsung-che hit a ground ball to second base for an out in the bottom of the third inning and a ground ball to first base for an out in the bottom of the sixth inning. In total today, he had one hit in three at-bats and scored one run, with his batting average now at .167.

The Nationals took the lead in the top of the first inning with a solo home run by James Wood. The Red Sox responded in the bottom of the first, with Willson Contreras hitting a three-run homer to take the lead. After two outs, Caleb Durbin added a solo home run, helping the team build a 4-1 lead.

The Red Sox scored one run each in the bottom of the second and third innings. The Nationals narrowed the gap in the top of the sixth inning, scoring two runs on an RBI double by CJ Abrams, but their offense stalled, leading to their defeat.

Red Sox starting pitcher Ranger Suarez pitched six innings today, giving up five hits, including one home run. He recorded eight strikeouts and one walk, allowing three earned runs.
