(CNA, reporter Su Mu-chun, Taichung, July 1) Former DPP Secretary-General and former TSUG Chairman Wu Nai-jen, who was taken into custody by the Taichung District Court last month due to compulsory execution in the TSUG land case, has been released. The Taichung District Court stated today that Wu was released by the Taichung Detention Center in accordance with the law after the creditor, TSUG Company, withdrew its custody request.
The Taiwan Taichung District Court stated today that during the appeal process initiated by Wu Nai-jen against his custody, the creditor TSUG Company withdrew its request. The court granted the release and issued a release order.
The Taichung District Court stated that the Taichung Detention Center received the release order on June 22 of this year and legally released Wu Nai-jen that afternoon. Subsequent actions will be taken based on the creditor's claims and court filings.
Wu Nai-jen is accused of changing TSUG's "lease only, no sale" policy for TSUG land during his tenure as chairman, allegedly at the request of former DPP legislator Hung Chi-chang, leading to the sale of TSUG land at a low price to Chun Lung Company, which had sponsored Hung Chi-chang. This resulted in a loss of over NT$200 million for TSUG. In a retrial, the Taiwan High Court Taichung Branch Court ruled in March 2014 that Wu Nai-jen had benefited Chun Lung Company and sentenced him to nine months in prison.
Wu Nai-jen entered prison in May 2014 and, after sentence reduction, was released from Hualien's minimum-security prison in January 2015. In terms of civil liability, Wu Nai-jen, Chun Lung Company, and others were ordered to compensate TSUG NT$110 million, which, with interest and derivative debts, is estimated to be NT$170 million.
Wu Nai-jen's civil compensation case is pending at the Taichung District Court. The Taipei District Court, at the request of the Taichung District Court in December 2024, initially seized approximately NT$17 million of Wu Nai-jen's assets. TSUG later recovered NT$7 million. At the end of 2024 and early 2025, TSUG again filed a request for compulsory execution with the court. The Taichung District Court requested the Taipei District Court to summon Wu Nai-jen, but was unsuccessful.
After Wu Nai-jen voluntarily appeared at the Taichung District Court on June 12 of this year, the court found the creditor's request to be valid and ordered Wu Nai-jen to be taken into custody. (Editor: Lung Po-an) 1150701
