(CNA Taipei, July 1st) China's Central Meteorological Observatory issued a weather alert today at 4 PM: the tropical depression in the South China Sea will be upgraded to a typhoon and is expected to make landfall in Hainan and Guangxi on the 3rd.

According to a report by The Paper, China's Central Meteorological Observatory stated on the morning of July 1st that the disturbance in the South China Sea has formed into a tropical depression and is expected to develop into a typhoon within 24 hours. It will make landfall in Hainan and Guangxi successively on the 3rd and 4th, becoming the first typhoon to make landfall in China this year.

Affected by this, the South China Sea and southern China regions will experience strong winds and heavy rain. Rainfall in some areas of Guangxi and Hainan Island may approach historical同期 extreme values, and defensive measures need to be taken in advance.

The depression is expected to move west-northwest at a speed of 20 to 25 kilometers per hour, gradually intensifying. After developing into a typhoon, it will make landfall on the coast of eastern Hainan Island to western Guangxi on the afternoon of the 3rd (25-30 m/s, level 10 to 11, strong tropical storm level), with the most likely landing point being the eastern coastal area of Hainan Island.

After landfall, the typhoon will cross Hainan Island and move into the Beibu Gulf, and will make landfall again on the coast of Guangxi on the afternoon of the 4th (20-23 m/s, level 8 to 9, tropical storm level), after which its intensity will gradually weaken.

Chinese meteorological experts remind that Hainan Island, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan, and other places need to strengthen their defenses against heavy rain disasters. Especially in Guangxi, where there has been continuous rainfall and large cumulative rainfall, local rainfall this time may approach historical同期 extreme values, and the risk of disaster accumulation is high, requiring relevant defensive measures. The public should also try to avoid visiting islands, beaches, and other places for leisure during the typhoon's impact period. (Editor: Zhu Jianling / Lu Jiarong) 1150701
