(CNA, Taipei, July 1) The Central Weather Administration today issued a high-temperature advisory for 11 counties and cities, including Taipei and Keelung, warning of temperatures exceeding 36 degrees Celsius. Weather expert Wu Der-rong stated that from tomorrow until the 8th, the Pacific high-pressure system will influence the region, with the highest temperatures nationwide potentially reaching around 38 degrees Celsius. Two tropical disturbances are still brewing over the ocean.
The Central Weather Administration issued a high-temperature advisory, indicating hot weather across the island. Today, New Taipei City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Yilan County are under an orange alert, warning of continuous temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius. Keelung City, Taipei City, Yunlin County, and Hualien County are under a yellow alert, warning of temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius.
Wu Der-rong, an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, stated in the "Heavenly Secrets Revealed Classroom" column of the Foundation for the Promotion of Meteorological Applications that the latest European model simulation shows the Pacific high-pressure system gradually strengthening today. Skies will be clear to partly cloudy across the island, with convection developing in the mountains in the afternoon, occasionally affecting some plains.
Wu Der-rong pointed out that the latest model simulation indicates that from tomorrow until the 8th, the Pacific high-pressure system will influence the region, with clear to partly cloudy skies and localized brief showers in the mountains in the afternoon. Starting tomorrow, the weather will be as hot as midsummer, with the highest temperatures nationwide potentially reaching around 38 degrees Celsius. Sun protection and heatstroke prevention are advised.
Wu Der-rong mentioned that the weather on the 9th will depend on the typhoon's movement and is still to be observed. The latest simulations from various international models show signs of tropical disturbance development east of Guam and in the South China Sea. The first disturbance to develop will be named Typhoon Bavi, the 9th typhoon of the season.
Wu Der-rong stated that the disturbance east of Guam, due to its proximity to a high sea surface temperature zone, has the potential to strengthen into a typical strong typhoon during an El Niño year. However, it is too early to discuss their threat to Taiwan, and adjustments in international models are still pending. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150701
