(CNA, Taipei, July 1, Reporter Liu Shih-yi) In the investigation of the Anxin Coin Trader fraud case, investigators discovered that several police officers allegedly accepted banquets, gifts, and other illicit benefits, and were involved in violations of the Personal Data Protection Act and leaking information. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office conducted searches and interrogations yesterday, and this morning requested the detention of an investigation officer surnamed Li and an intermediary surnamed Zheng.

Regarding other defendants, seven police officers, including those surnamed Liu, Gu, and Cai, were each granted bail of NT$200,000. The fraud group's member surnamed Wei was granted bail of NT$100,000, and two civilians were released.

When the Taipei District Prosecutors Office directed the New Taipei City Criminal Investigation Brigade last year to investigate the "Anxin Coin Trader" virtual currency investment fraud case, it was discovered that some police officers had accepted banquets, gifts, and other illicit benefits, and some officers were suspected of leaking secrets that should have been kept confidential during the investigation. Upon learning of this, the Police Agency's Inspectorate Office established a special task force and reported to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for direction and investigation.

Investigators found that during the investigation of the Anxin Coin Trader case in January last year, the police apprehended a member surnamed Wei of the fraud group. To keep abreast of the investigation progress, the fraud group sought out a man surnamed Zheng, who had good connections with gangs and the police, to inquire about information. Zheng then found a police officer to inquire about Wei's statement and the investigation progress from the case handler.

Investigators found that the involved police officers included Liu, a researcher from the Public Relations Office of the Criminal Investigation Bureau; Li, an investigation officer from the Tucheng Precinct of the New Taipei City Police Department; Gu, an investigation officer from the Fourth Investigation Corps of the Criminal Investigation Bureau; Cai, a section chief from the Civil Defense Control Center of the New Taipei City Police Department; Li, a police officer from the Xinyi Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department; Cai, a team leader from the Investigation Team of the Daan Precinct; police officer Xu; and Shen, a team leader from the Investigation Team of the Nangang Precinct.

Yesterday, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office directed the Police Agency's Inspectorate Office, the New Taipei City Police Department, the Taipei City Police Department, and the Criminal Investigation Bureau, among other units, to execute search warrants issued by the court. They searched a total of 28 locations, including the residences and offices of 12 defendants, including the eight police officers and Mr. Zheng, and summoned the 12 defendants for questioning. The case is being investigated for violations of the Anti-Corruption Act, the Personal Data Protection Act, and the Criminal Code for leaking secrets. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150701
