(CNA Reporter Wang Hsin-yu Taipei, July 1st) Indigenous singer R.fu has released his first album "扛THE WEIGHT." He works at a container yard during the day and transforms into a musician at night, singing about his labor life and tribal beliefs in Sakizaya. This is also Taiwan's first rap album primarily in Sakizaya.
R.fu said through his record company today that this album is dedicated to all laborers under the sun and side-hustle musicians. He hopes everyone can bravely try new things besides work. "We are the ones who carry everything on our shoulders. We carry not only our lives but also the weight of music."
R.fu samples the sounds of steel clashing at the container yard, glasses clinking at drinking parties, and the nagging of tribal elders into his music, showcasing a sense of real-life presence. Abao, founder of the record company "Nawawawa," said, "Some of his lyrics are very indigenous, things ordinary people wouldn't think of. His rhythm and pitch are excellent, and he doesn't get bogged down. In music, he can be very cool, very annoying, very cocky, but in daily life, he's just the cutest honest person."
"扛THE WEIGHT" is now available on major digital streaming platforms. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150701
