(CNA, Taipei, July 2) -- Terrapin, a puppet theatre company from Tasmania, Australia, will present its signature work, 'The Paper Escaper,' which combines puppetry with paper art to tell the story of a paper boy's pursuit of freedom and his courage and friendship with a paper monster.

Taipei Performing Arts Center announced today in a press release that 'The Paper Escaper' is one of Terrapin's representative puppet works. The entire 45-minute performance is without dialogue, using visual language, rhythmic movement, and stage design to transform paper into vivid theatrical elements before the audience's eyes. Audiences follow the skillful hands of Dr. White as he uses scissors to "snip snip," cutting out a small hand, a face, and gradually creating Benny and his parents.

The entire play uses rich paper art techniques such as cutting, folding, carving, rolling, collage, and layering to create delicate and surprising stage scenes. Combined with brightly colored character designs and infectious music, it leads the audience into the imaginative jungle of puppetry.

The story narrates Benny, a "paper boy" who escapes from a pop-up book, whose greatest dream is "to regain freedom and be himself!" He wants to break free from his creator, "Dr. White," and embarks on a thrilling escape across the doctor's desk. On his journey, Benny encounters a "paper monster" willing to help him, and also faces a "paper flame." In the end, he demonstrates courage, determination, and friendship.

Terrapin, established over 40 years ago, is dedicated to creating contemporary puppet works suitable for audiences of all ages. The company has been invited to perform at venues such as the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in the UK, the Betovering Festival in the Netherlands, the Edinburgh International Children's Festival, the Vancouver International Children's Festival, and the Sydney Opera House, astonishing audiences worldwide with its large puppets or interactive public art installations.

Terrapin's 'The Paper Escaper' will be performed from July 2 to July 5 at the Shuiyuan Theater in Taipei City. (Editor: Li Heng-shan) 1150702
