(Central News Agency, reporter Cheng Wei-chen, Changhua, July 2) Zhonglian Oil's soybean salad oil has been found to exceed the limit for the carcinogen benzo[a]pyrene, and has flowed to companies such as Taishan, Fwusow, and Formosa Oils & Fats. The Changhua County Health Bureau stated today that related oil products within the county have been completely removed from shelves, and the quantities are being tallied.
The Health Bureau said that after receiving notification on June 30, Taishan Company proactively reported to the Changhua County Health Bureau and began recall operations. As for Fwusow and Formosa Oils & Fats, after the Health Bureau received flow data provided by the Taichung City Government, it notified the relevant companies to remove the products from shelves.
The Health Bureau stated that after receiving the report, it comprehensively investigated the sales of oil products within the county. All related oil products have been removed and recalled, and the subsequent recall status will continue to be monitored.
On July 1, the Food and Drug Administration received a report from Zhonglian Oil Co., Ltd. that a batch of soybean salad oil raw material, approximately 1,300 metric tons, used by companies such as Fwusow Industry, Formosa Oils & Fats, and Taishan Enterprise, was found to have a carcinogen "benzo[a]pyrene" content exceeding the regulatory limit.
