(CNA reporter Chang Jung-hsiang Tainan, July 2) The Tainan City Cultural Heritage Management Office announced today that three items, including the "Da Zhang Fu" plaque from Taiwan's Sidian Wu Temple, the "Ping Tai Ji Lue Stele" from Sidian Da Tian Hou Temple, and the "Stele of Merit for Admiral Jinghai, Lord Shi," have been designated as general antiquities of Tainan City.
The Tainan City Cultural Heritage Management Office recently held its first antiquities review meeting for 2025, approving the addition of the "Da Zhang Fu" plaque and two other items as general antiquities of Tainan City. Currently, Tainan City has a cumulative total of 109 sets and 939 items designated as antiquities, including 3 sets and 6 national treasures, 14 sets and 186 important antiquities, and 92 sets and 747 general antiquities.
The Cultural Heritage Management Office explained that the "Da Zhang Fu" plaque from Taiwan's Sidian Wu Temple was presented by Yang Tingli, the Circuit Intendant of Taiwan, in the 59th year of the Qianlong reign (1794). He had served during the Qianlong and Jiaqing eras and participated in the suppression of the Lin Shuangwen rebellion. The inscription on the plaque is taken from "Mencius," symbolizing the Confucian emphasis on integrity and fortitude, and echoing the spirit of loyalty and righteousness of Guan Di.
The "Da Zhang Fu" plaque features high-relief dragon patterns and sea wave motifs, with exquisite craftsmanship that fully showcases the characteristics of late Qing Dynasty wood carving art. It is extremely rare among all Guan Di temples in Taiwan and possesses historical, artistic, and craft research value.
The "Ping Tai Ji Lue Stele" and the "Stele of Merit for Admiral Jinghai, Lord Shi" from Sidian Da Tian Hou Temple together form an important historical testament to Taiwan's transition from the Ming-Zheng period to the early Qing rule.
The "Ping Tai Ji Lue Stele" records the process of administration and governance after Shi Lang's pacification of Taiwan, providing a detailed account of the social conditions and governance measures during the early period of political transition, making it an important historical material for studying the development of Taiwan's history. The "Stele of Merit for Admiral Jinghai, Lord Shi" reflects the evaluation of Shi Lang's governance achievements by local gentry and the public, witnessing an important historical node marking the 10th anniversary of Taiwan's incorporation into the Qing Empire.
