Hualien Ocean Park Dolphin Show Concludes, Transitions to Ecological Performances for Conservation Promotion

(CNA, reporter Chang Chi, Hualien County, July 2nd) Hualien Far Glory Ocean Park established the "Dolphin Guardian Base" in July. The dolphin show, originally an entertainment performance, has been transformed into an ecological exhibition. Through animal science imagery combined with natural dolphin behaviors, visitors can learn about dolphins and marine ecosystems.

The "Dolphin Guardian Base" has been in trial operation since July, with the ecological education theater at its core. The exhibition features interactive behaviors such as dolphins leaping out of the water, coming on stage to wag their tails, or biting balls.

Deng Chun-jen, Director General of Far Glory Recreation and Leisure Management, explained that all exhibition actions stem from health check and care needs. For example, a dolphin lifting its tail is to facilitate blood draws for examination, exhaling is to monitor respiratory health, and interacting with toys helps maintain the dolphin's activity level. These are all monitored and are not simply performance actions.

Deng Chun-jen stated that the base currently has 5 dolphins. In the future, some backstage areas will be opened to allow the public to gain a deeper understanding of dolphin care processes, medical management, and marine life rescue work.

Shen Jian-shao, General Manager of Far Glory Ocean Park, said that the new exhibition content shifts the focus back to the dolphins themselves. Through their natural behaviors, combined with animation and professional explanations, visitors can learn about dolphins during the exhibition.

Shen Jian-shao mentioned that the park has long-term exchanges with Hong Kong Ocean Park, Toba Aquarium in Japan, and the Georgia Aquarium, introducing new concepts in care and medical treatment. They have also invested in marine life rescue, recently successfully treating a sea turtle injured by a boat propeller, which has since been successfully released back into the wild.

In addition, Far Glory Ocean Park is collaborating with the popular anime "Attack on Titan" for its summer event, "Attack on Summer." This includes a themed Ferris wheel, photo opportunities, co-branded merchandise, and limited-edition food and beverages, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the classic scenes of the work as soon as they enter the park.
