(CNA Reporter Chen Chih-chung Taipei, July 3) The Ministry of Education announced today that the 115 academic year Study Abroad Program will fund 3,847 students to undertake overseas university studies or internships at corporate institutions, gaining valuable international experience. The total funding amounts to NT$460 million.
The Study Abroad Program comprises four sub-programs: Xuehai Feiyang, Xuehai Xizhu, Xuehai Zhunmeng, and New Southbound Xuehai Zhunmeng. Each has different conditions and subsidy amounts. Universities submitted proposals, and the Ministry of Education reviewed them, announcing the results today. A total of 122 universities and 3,847 students received funding.
This year's regulations are largely the same as last year, with only Xuehai Xizhu adding two categories of eligible recipients: those qualifying for the disadvantaged student financial aid program, and those whose father or mother holds a disability certificate.
The Ministry of Education reminds students who are eligible for low-income or low-to-middle-income household status that if they participate in any Study Abroad Program for overseas study or internships for more than 183 days, they can apply for special project subsidies upon their return according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Special Project Subsidy Plan for Low-Income and Low-to-Middle-Income Students Participating in Ministry of Education or University-Recommended Overseas Study or Professional Internships Abroad."
The Study Abroad Program has been promoted since the 96th academic year, benefiting over 60,000 students cumulatively. The Ministry of Education encourages young students to seize the opportunity during their studies to participate in the program, connect with the international community through overseas study or professional internships planned by their schools, and explore their future career competitiveness.
