(Monaco, July 3, CNA, Foreign News) Authorities are pursuing a Ukrainian woman suspected of disguising herself as a man to carry out a bombing in Monaco this week, after German police searched the suspect's rented apartment. The Interpol issued a Red Notice for the suspect.
According to a Red Notice issued by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), Anastasiia Berezovska, a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman, is wanted in connection with a bombing that occurred in Monaco on June 29. She is accused of attempted murder and intending to endanger public safety with an explosive device.
German police searched her rented apartment in the Frankfurt area on July 2. German police stated, "The woman is currently on the run." They have also handed over the evidence they obtained to the Monaco authorities.
Monaco Deputy Prosecutor Morgan Raymond told the media that the suspect's last known residence was in Germany. According to Raymond, the suspect fled to France in a rented car before heading to Italy.
He stated that this series of actions suggests the suspect "may not have acted alone" and confirmed that the suspect was "disguised as a man."
Monaco, located on the French Riviera, is known for its concentration of billionaires and luxury yachts and is considered a tax haven. The bombing shocked the area, with Prince Albert describing the attack as an "outrageous crime."
Monaco authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the victim, but according to sources, the bombing targeted Vadym Yermolaiev, 58, his partner, and his 13-year-old son. Yermolaiev renounced his Ukrainian citizenship years ago and currently holds Cypriot nationality.
On the evening of June 29, a man left a package in the entrance hall of a small apartment building in Monaco, near the French border. Shortly after, as three residents, a couple and their 13-year-old son, were about to enter the hall, an explosion occurred. The suspect was captured on surveillance footage wearing a black bucket hat and was initially believed to be a man.
Raymond stated that after reviewing surveillance footage and hearing testimony from an individual who had contact with the suspect, investigators turned their focus to a woman who allegedly surveyed the scene multiple times in the days leading up to the explosion. (Compiled by Liu Shu-chin) 1150703
