(Central News Agency, New York, July 2nd, via foreign press) A man set himself on fire outside the United Nations headquarters in New York today and died after being taken to the hospital, according to the New York Police Department.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) told Agence France-Presse that at 6:32 PM, police received a report of a man setting himself on fire near the intersection of First Avenue and 42nd Street. The man was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An investigation is currently underway.

Police did not provide further details on the motive. The New York Post, citing sources, reported that the man was carrying a Tibetan flag at the time of the incident, but Agence France-Presse has not yet been able to independently confirm this information.
