(Central News Agency Reporter Chang Chien-chung Taipei, July 3rd) As the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index plunged over 5%, and the Taiwan Futures Index fell 938 points overnight, the Taiwan Stock Market showed weakness in early trading today, briefly falling below the 46,000-point mark. As the decline in electronics stocks narrowed and traditional industries and financial stocks strengthened, the market's decline significantly reduced, with the index regaining the 46,000-point level.
As of 11:10 AM, the Taiwan Weighted Index was 46394.73 points, down 349.43 points, with a transaction value of approximately NT$648.6 billion.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) fell 2.27%. TSMC's stock price also declined today, dropping to NT$2415 in early trading, down NT$50. Its market capitalization fell to NT$62.62 trillion, impacting the broader market by approximately 397 points.
MediaTek, Delta Electronics, Hon Hai Precision Industry, and ASE Technology Holding also weakened. The electronics sector index fell over 2% in early trading. As Delta Electronics and Hon Hai turned positive after fluctuations, the electronics sector index's decline narrowed to about 1%.
In terms of traditional industries, the cement, food, textile, cable, paper, rubber, automotive, and shipping sector indices rose over 2%, showing relatively strong performance.
