Han Kuo-yu Promotes Yunlin Peanuts, Urges Public to Buy More to Help Farmers

(CNA reporter Lin Ching-yin Taipei, July 3) Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu attended a peanut promotion event held by the Yunlin County Government at the Legislative Yuan today, urging the public to consume more Yunlin peanuts, support domestic agricultural products, and help farmers and fishermen.

The Yunlin County Government held a "Taste Yunlin, Good Things Happen with Peanuts" recommendation press conference at the Legislative Yuan this morning. Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan attended and appeared on stage with Han Kuo-yu to promote Yunlin peanuts.

Han Kuo-yu said that Yunlin County is a magical place. Although its land area accounts for only 3.5% of Taiwan, it ranks first in Taiwan for five major agricultural products: rice, sweet potatoes, garlic, yams, and today's star, peanuts.

Han Kuo-yu stated that peanuts are known as "longevity fruit" and have four major benefits. First, they are very good for cardiovascular health, can resist oxidation and aging, stabilize emotions, and aid sleep. Therefore, peanuts are an agricultural product that is very beneficial to the body.

Han Kuo-yu expressed his deep emotion as Legislative Yuan President seeing Chang Li-shan and many legislators from agricultural and fishing counties promoting agricultural and fishery products at the Legislative Yuan. Legislators are the highest representatives of the people nationwide and have a responsibility to promote the excellent products from their constituencies to the general public. This is the responsibility and expected behavior of every legislator.

Han Kuo-yu pointed out that imported peanuts from countries like India, Argentina, and Brazil account for about 25% of the domestic market. However, everyone knows that Yunlin peanuts are truly delicious, fragrant, and nutritious.

Han Kuo-yu said that farmers work hard hoping their agricultural products will sell well at good prices, allowing them to support their families and raise their children. He hopes the public will consume more domestic agricultural and aquatic products to help our farmer and fisherman friends.
