(CNA, Taipei, July 4) Regarding the continued presence of China Coast Guard vessels in waters east of Taiwan, the Coast Guard Administration stated today that it has dispatched the Bali and Hualien patrol vessels to sail alongside and monitor the situation, and sternly refutes China's claims of "fake law enforcement, real expansion of power" as cognitive warfare.
Media reports indicate that the China Coast Guard announced that the Xiushan vessel formation of the China Coast Guard took over from the Daishan vessel formation on July 4th, continuing patrols in waters east of Taiwan.
The Coast Guard Administration of the Ocean Affairs Council issued a press release today in response, stating that it has utilized joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance methods to closely monitor the movements of the China Coast Guard vessels Xiushan (2305) and Chongming (1401). As of 9:25 AM today, both Chinese coast guard ships were sailing eastward into the sea 54 nautical miles east of Hualien Port (27 nautical miles outside the restricted waters). The Bali and Hualien patrol vessels have been pre-positioned to sail alongside and monitor them.
The Coast Guard Administration stated that the Republic of China, Taiwan, is a sovereign and independent country, and there is no subordination between it and the People's Republic of China.
Furthermore, international law follows the principle of "land precedes the sea." Taiwan possesses sovereign rights and jurisdiction in its exclusive economic zone east of Taiwan. China has absolutely no sovereign rights over any waters around Taiwan. China's attempts to harass through maritime navigation and other means cannot change this indisputable fact.
The Coast Guard Administration stated that it will continue to take all necessary measures to forcefully expel Chinese vessels harassing Taiwan's waters, resolutely defend national sovereignty, and ensure the safety of Taiwan's maritime domain. (Editor: Li Hengshan) 1150704
