(CNA reporter Chen Yu-ting, Taipei, July 4) To promote a smoke-free city, the Taipei City Department of Health has newly announced that the Dihua Street business district and the Chifeng Street business district surrounding the Zhongshan Linear Park will be completely smoke-free. Starting August 1st, anyone caught smoking outside designated smoking areas will face fines ranging from NT$2,000 to NT$10,000.

The Taipei City Department of Health recently announced that to protect the public's right to health free from secondhand smoke and to build an outdoor smoke-free environment, the Dihua Street business district will be a completely smoke-free place starting August 1st. Smoking will not be permitted outside of designated smoking areas. The scope covers the area enclosed by Minle Street, Nanjing West Road, Xining North Road, and Minsheng West Road.

The Department of Health stated that the Chifeng Street business district, surrounding the Zhongshan Linear Park, will also be a no-smoking area starting August 1st. The controlled area includes the region enclosed by Section 2 of Zhongshan North Road, Nanjing West Road, Section 2 of Chengde Road, and Minsheng West Road.

The Department of Health stated that violators caught smoking in these no-smoking areas at that time will be fined NT$2,000 to NT$10,000 in accordance with Article 40, Paragraph 2 of the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act. (Editor: Li Hengshan) 1150704
