(Tokyo, July 6, CNA, Reuters) The Japanese government announced today that the Chinese Ministry of National Defense informed the Japanese Embassy in Beijing at 10:30 AM today about a ballistic missile launch, with the restricted area designated as the sea area south of the Shionomisaki region off Wakayama Prefecture, Japan.
According to the Nikkei, the Japanese government strongly urged Beijing at the time to reconsider the test launch and avoid any threat to Japan's security, such as missiles flying over Japanese airspace. At the same time, the Japanese government also expressed serious concern to China regarding its increasingly active military activities.
The Japanese government stated that relevant ministries will cooperate to ensure the safety of Japan's airspace and waters, and the Ministry of Defense has made thorough preparations for surveillance and monitoring.
Prior to this, the Japan Coast Guard (equivalent to the Coast Guard Administration) received information from China yesterday stating that a "restricted area for space debris falling will be designated," and part of this area falls within Japan's claimed Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). China's state-run Xinhua News Agency had already reported on the missile test launch earlier today. (Compiled by Yang Weijing) 1150706
