Taipei police were alerted and pursued the case, apprehending a 70-year-old man surnamed Chang from Taichung about two and a half hours after the incident to clarify the situation.
The Taipei City Police Department's MRT Police Corps received a report at 12:56 PM stating that a man was spraying an unknown liquid at Taipei Main Station's Exit M8, causing people at the scene to cough. Preliminary investigations revealed that a man, after allegedly finding a pepper spray device at Exit M8, played with it and sprayed it towards himself. He then discarded the device in a trash can and left. No one was injured or required medical attention, and the MRT system's operations were normal.
The MRT Police Corps stated that after the incident, they immediately formed a task force with the Zhongzheng First Precinct of the City Police Department to investigate.
