Taipei, July 6 (CNA) The National Photography Center launched its "Shadows: Seeing the Unseen" exhibition in June, allowing visitors to experience art through touch. A series of promotional activities will also be held, including a collaboration between participating artists and visually impaired masseurs, to help the public better understand the world of the visually impaired.
The National Photography Center stated in a press release today that the "Shadows: Seeing the Unseen" exhibition focuses on cultural equity and sensory diversity, moving forward through the five senses and imagination. It also extends to a rich array of exhibition promotion and parent-child activities.
On July 25, the "Invitation to Open Senses" forum will feature Hsu Chia-feng, a visually impaired arts and culture worker who lost his sight later in life, and curator Chao Hsin-yi, who will jointly share how different sensory experiences can be pathways to understanding the world.
The "Image, Touch, and Hearing" workshop on August 2, combining art and technology, will explore how the museum's "universal design" can transform visually oriented photography into tactile and auditory expressions.
The culminating event on August 21, the "Warm-up Body: Visually Impaired Massage" workshop, will feature participating artist Chiang Yu-cheng collaborating with visually impaired masseur Fang Chung-chieh. They will share knowledge and techniques of visually impaired massage, allowing participants to experience basic massage and deepen their bodily perception.
From July to August, a series of parent-child workshops will also take place. "What is Seen and Heard: A Guide to Olfactory Associations" starts with scent, linking aromatherapy stones with smell and memory to explore perception and imagination. "My Space of Associations: A Guide to Empathy" by artist Wu Yi-hsuan will guide parents and children in collaborative creation using clay. "Warm Ears: A Guide to Sound Collection" by sound artist Cheng Wan-chien will transform sounds from the exhibition space into a personalized sound map with the audience.
