(CNA) Taipei, July 6 - The Taiwan stock market saw a volatile upward trend last week, with the main board closing at 46,780.62 points on July 3, marking a weekly gain of 2,208.86 points, or 4.96%. However, according to Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation statistics, foreign investors sold NT$139.299 billion in the main market last week, marking the second consecutive week of selling, with the total sales over the past two weeks reaching NT$470.535 billion.
Furthermore, statistics from the beginning of the year to July 3 show that foreign investors have cumulatively sold NT$1.0856 trillion in the main market, breaking the NT$1 trillion mark.
As of July 3, the total market value of stocks held by foreign investors in the main market was NT$74.1723 trillion, accounting for 48.60% of the total market capitalization of listed stocks.
Regarding individual stocks, according to Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation statistics, the top three companies sold by foreign investors last week were First Financial Holding Co. with 148,677 shares, Mega Financial Holding Co. with 131,089 shares, and Chang Hwa Commercial Bank with 129,628 shares, all of which are financial stocks.
On the buying side, the top three companies bought by foreign investors last week were United Microelectronics Corporation with 134,206 shares, Cathay Financial Holding Co. with 100,106 shares, and Chi Mei Corporation with 98,879 shares. (Editor: Yang Kai-hsiang) 1150706
