(Central News Agency, reporter Zheng Weizhen, Changhua, July 6) The Changhua County Health Bureau announced today that Chung Lien Oil has supplied problematic cooking oil to Formosa Oils & Fats and Fwumao. Downstream businesses include school meal suppliers. Relevant businesses have been asked to cooperate with product flow confirmation and recall operations.

The Changhua County Education Department stated that it received notification from the Health Bureau today regarding two catering companies, Mei Jing Food Co., Ltd. and Guan Cheng Catering Food Factory, which are involved. The companies have been asked to cooperate with the investigation. Any products involving the questionable oil must be immediately stopped from use, sealed, and removed from shelves. The Education Department will follow the Health Bureau's policy, continue to track the situation, and supervise schools and catering companies to implement strict management of ingredient sources, ensuring the safety of school lunches.

Chung Lien Oil Co., Ltd. in Taichung City's "Soybean Salad Oil" exceeded the limit for the carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene, with a total of 1,300 metric tons flowing to Taishan, Formosa Oils & Fats, and Fwumao.

The Changhua County Health Bureau issued a press release in the evening stating that regarding the flow of problematic oil supplied by Chung Lien Oil to Formosa Oils & Fats and Fwumao, the Health Bureau has initiated second and third-tier flow investigations and dispatched personnel to inspect downstream businesses within the county. As of now, 28 businesses have been inspected, and approximately 1,101 kilograms of related problematic oil have been removed from shelves.

The Health Bureau stated that downstream businesses of the problematic oil from Formosa Oils & Fats and Fwumao include food wholesale and retail businesses, food manufacturing businesses, bento factories, as well as restaurants such as small eateries, fried chicken shops, breakfast shops, and buffet restaurants. This includes school meal suppliers Mei Jing Food Co., Ltd. and Guan Cheng Catering Food Factory. Relevant businesses have been asked to cooperate with product flow confirmation and recall operations to ensure that the problematic oil is no longer distributed, sold, or used.

In addition, for food manufacturing businesses, the Health Bureau has notified them to comply with central government regulations for self-disclosure, clearly revealing product information to protect the public's right to know.

The Health Bureau stated that it will continue to monitor the downstream flow and recall status of the relevant problematic oil, urge businesses to implement recall and information disclosure operations, and strictly ensure food safety. (Editor: Li Xizhang) 1150706
