Hsinchu City Inspects School Lunch Oils, All Schools Confirmed Not Using Affected Batches

(CNA, reporter Lu Kang-chun, Hsinchu City, July 6) The Hsinchu City Government stated that in response to the detection of excessive levels of benzopyrene in Chung Lien soybean salad oil, the city has activated its school lunch oil inspection mechanism. A meeting was held today with three school lunch catering service providers within its jurisdiction. The inspection results confirmed that none of them used the affected batches of oil.

The Hsinchu City Government issued a press release today stating that 47 municipal junior high and elementary schools in Hsinchu City are supplied by three catering service providers. A comprehensive inspection has been completed, confirming that none of the providers used the affected batches of oil in question. The city government has requested all schools and catering service providers to continue to implement source management of ingredients and self-inspection mechanisms.

In the press release, the Hsinchu City Catering Food Industry Association explained that its member companies have not used the affected batches of products. Furthermore, before the incident was clarified, all member companies had voluntarily taken precautionary measures to suspend the use of edible oils from brands involved in this supply chain to implement food safety management with higher standards.

The city government stated that it will continue to closely monitor the latest announcements from central competent authorities and maintain close contact with health units and catering service providers. If any new response measures are required, they will be coordinated to protect the quality of school lunches and the dietary safety of schoolchildren. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150706
