(CNA Taipei, July 7) - Typhoon Bavi is gradually approaching the waters east of Taiwan. China, which was recently hit by Typhoon Maysak causing a dam collapse in Guangxi, is also on high alert. Chinese meteorological agencies predict that Bavi has a higher probability of making landfall on the coast between northern Fujian and Zhejiang around the 11th, describing that Bavi will have a "huge impact" on relevant regions in China.

According to reports from Jiemian News and CCTV News, as of 8 AM today, Bavi is classified as a "super typhoon" by China's official meteorological agency. Its center is located in the Western Pacific, with maximum sustained winds of 62 meters per second near the center, equivalent to a Level 17 wind or higher. It is gradually approaching the mainland Chinese coast.

China's Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that Bavi will move westward at a speed of 25 to 30 kilometers per hour, with little change in intensity. It will not affect China's coastal waters before the 8th. After the 8th, it will first approach the waters east of Taiwan, and starting from the 10th, it will affect China's eastern coastal waters. It is expected to make landfall on the coast between northern Fujian and Zhejiang with a higher probability around the 11th.

China's Central Meteorological Observatory also released the latest typhoon dynamics on its Weibo account today with the title "Alert: Super Typhoon 'Bavi' May Cause Huge Impact on Our Country." Other Chinese media outlets also described Bavi's landfall as having "very huge subsequent impacts" and that its movements need to be closely monitored.

The reports describe Bavi as "large in size, fast-developing, and strong in intensity." It is predicted that upon approaching China's coastal areas, its intensity will be classified as a "super typhoon" or "typhoon" level by Chinese standards. (Editor: Chiu Kuo-chiang / Chen Kai-yu) 1150707
