(CNA Taipei, July 7) China has recently experienced frequent weather-related disaster events in multiple locations. According to state media Xinhua Net, strong convective weather including tornadoes in places like Huangshi and Huanggang in Hubei Province has resulted in 8 deaths.
The report stated that many areas in eastern Hubei encountered strong convective weather on July 6. Between 7 PM and 11 PM that evening, thunderstorms and strong winds occurred in Huangshi, Huanggang, Ezhou, and Xianning. Wind speeds in 53 townships reached level 8 to 13, with two townships reaching level 13. Some townships experienced tornadoes.
The report quoted the Hubei Provincial Emergency Management Department as saying that as of around 11 PM on July 6, this strong convective weather had caused 8 deaths and 1 person missing. Disaster assessment is ongoing.
The report indicated that over 3,500 rescue personnel from provincial, municipal, and county levels have been mobilized in areas such as Huangshi, Ezhou, and Xianning to carry out disaster relief and treatment efforts.
Extreme weather has swept across the globe, causing disasters. Fushun City in Liaoning Province recently experienced heavy rainfall resulting in multiple deaths. Since July 4, Nanning City in Guangxi has seen heavy to torrential rain in many areas, with localized extremely heavy downpours.
