(Central News Agency reporter Ye Zhen, Taoyuan, July 7) Zhonglian's "Soybean Salad Oil" was found to have excessive levels of the carcinogen benzopyrene, and the product was distributed to multiple businesses. The Taoyuan City Department of Health announced today that the first wave of 32 businesses has been disclosed, with over 12,000 kilograms of oil removed from shelves. The second wave of the list includes 8 additional businesses, which have been prioritized for inspection and are currently being investigated.

The Department of Health stated that after receiving information on the flow of problematic oil from the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, it immediately activated its food safety response mechanism. The first wave of downstream businesses in Taoyuan City included 32 businesses, all of which have been inspected. These businesses have been ordered to immediately stop selling, stop using, and initiate recalls of the products.

The Department of Health reported that as of now, a total of 12,031.5 kilograms of problematic oil have been removed from shelves and recalled. They will continue to track the flow of recalled products and their subsequent handling to ensure that problematic products do not re-enter the market or the catering supply chain.

Regarding school lunches, the Department of Health stated that no cooking oil from the announced problematic batches was found to be in use initially. However, based on subsequent expanded investigations of batch numbers by the central government, it was discovered that a catering company located in New Taipei City had used newly added problematic batches, and this company supplied 13 schools in Taoyuan City.

The Department of Health stated that although it is currently summer vacation and no nutritional lunches are being provided, the Department of Education has strictly ordered the catering company to completely stop using the problematic oil and to ensure that all ingredient sources are verified with written pledges and inspection certificates before the start of the school year.

The Department of Health also mentioned that the FDA announced the second wave of downstream flow information for problematic oil yesterday. Taoyuan City has added 8 businesses, which have immediately been prioritized for inspection. The purpose is to confirm whether these businesses have received, stocked, used, or sold the oil in question, and they have been ordered to immediately remove and recall the products and stop using them. If there is any failure to comply with the regulations regarding removal and recall, or if sales and usage continue, legal action will be taken. (Editor: Lin Shuhui) 1150707
