(CNA, Penghu County, July 7) - Former Penghu County Councilor Cheng Ching-fa, who sought the Kuomintang's (KMT) nomination for Penghu County Magistrate and Magong Mayor but was unsuccessful, announced his withdrawal from the party today. He will run for Penghu County Councilor as an independent and will not support the KMT's candidate. The KMT Penghu County Chapter stated that they hope Cheng Ching-fa will prioritize the bigger picture.

Cheng Ching-fa held a press conference in front of the Beiji Temple in Anshan, Magong, Penghu, stating that he did not expect a senior independent figure to interfere so deeply and manipulate the nomination process for Penghu County Magistrate and Magong Mayor. He cited a lack of integrity, opaque and non-transparent black-box operations, and decided to part ways and withdraw from the party to run as an independent.

After the press conference, Cheng Ching-fa returned his party membership card to the party chapter, saying that in the future he will uphold the principle of "speaking the truth" and will not support the KMT's candidates.

Chen Shuang-chuan, Chairman of the Penghu County Chapter, stated that according to party regulations, Cheng Ching-fa's party membership had not been restored for a full year, making him ineligible for review. He will have opportunities to participate in elections and contribute to the KMT in the future. Regarding the withdrawal, the party chapter will convene a committee meeting and report to the party headquarters for processing. (Editor: Li Ming-tsung) 1150707
