Taipei, July 7 (CNA) Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) team Fubon Guardians announced today that they have signed Japanese pitcher Seigi Yamazaki, who will join the team as a "development foreign player" with the aim of bolstering their farm system.

The Guardians issued a press release today stating that Yamazaki will join as a development foreign player and will participate in the Guardians' minor league games in the second half of the season. The team hopes that through its comprehensive farm training system, it can help this promising young player grow further and reserve more available troops for the Guardians' future strength.

The 23-year-old Yamazaki is a right-handed pitcher with a fastball exceeding 150 kilometers per hour. After graduating from high school in 2022, he joined the Tokushima Indigo Socks of Japan's Shikoku Island League Plus. He played for five seasons, serving as an important bullpen force for the team and receiving key cultivation from the club. In 2024, he was dispatched by the team to the Colombian Winter League for experience.

Yamazaki has appeared in 21 games this season, pitching 46.2 innings with an earned run average of 1.35, achieving a record of 3 wins, 6 holds, and 4 saves. Last month, Yamazaki underwent a tryout with the Guardians. After evaluation by the coaching staff, he passed the tryout and was invited to Taiwan to join the Guardians as a development foreign player. The Guardians also expressed their gratitude to the Tokushima Indigo Socks for their cooperation and assistance.

The Guardians stated that Yamazaki has already arrived in Taiwan and will join the Guardians' minor league training after completing the relevant procedures, continuing to grow through practical experience in the minor leagues. (Editor: Hsiao Po-wen) 1150707
