TAITUNG, Taiwan (CNA) - Early this morning, a mountain climber experiencing altitude sickness at the Jiamei Lake Cabin was airlifted by a helicopter from the Aviation Police Command and sent to Taitung MacKay Hospital for treatment.
The 3rd Squadron of the 3rd Brigade of the Aviation Police Command, stationed at Taitung Fengnian Airport, issued a press release this afternoon stating that at around 6 AM today, they received notification from the Command's Operations Center that a person at the Jiamei Lake Cabin was suspected of having altitude sickness, experiencing right chest pain, difficulty breathing, and inability to walk, awaiting rescue and requiring helicopter assistance for an air rescue and transport mission.
The 3rd Squadron stated that after receiving the order from the Command, they dispatched a UH-60M helicopter to carry out the mission. Upon arrival at the target area of Jiamei Lake Cabin, they conducted high and low-altitude reconnaissance. After confirming the location with search and rescue personnel, the injured person was winched up and rescued, then lifted out of the target area and returned to Fengnian Airport.
