TAIPEI, Taiwan (CNA) - Taoyuan International Airport saw over 25.78 million passenger movements in the first half of this year, a 9% increase compared to the same period last year and a 6% increase compared to the same period in 2019, setting a new historical record.

Yu Chong-li, Deputy General Manager of Taoyuan International Airport Corporation, stated at a regular press conference today that the first half of the year's passenger traffic exceeded 25.78 million, setting a new historical high. The growth drivers were analyzed to include new fleets and routes from domestic airlines, high acceptance of international travel among Taiwanese travelers, and the relative affordability of destinations like Japan and South Korea due to exchange rates.

Yu Chong-li pointed out that passenger traffic growth was exceptionally strong from January to March, with a slight decrease in April and May. However, June still saw growth. The analysis for the decline in April and May attributed it to the increase in fuel surcharges and a temporary halt in increasing flights to Japan or Southeast Asia due to oil shortages in Southeast Asian countries caused by conflicts in the Middle East.

Yu Chong-li indicated that during the peak summer travel season, an estimated 46,000 takeoffs and landings are expected in July and August, averaging over 750 flights per day, surpassing the levels of the same period in 2019 and 2025. He urged travelers to arrive at the airport three hours before their flight during the peak summer period and to make full use of online check-in, self-service baggage drop, and e-Gate automated immigration services.

Regarding the North Concourse of Terminal 3, which opened last year, Yu Chong-li said it has accumulated 10,245 takeoffs and landings, serving over 2.3 million passengers.

Yu Chong-li advised passengers to confirm their passport validity and the entry requirements of their destination before departure. Traditional lighters are limited to one per person and must be carried on person, not checked in. Windproof and blue flame lighters are prohibited from both carry-on and checked baggage. Handheld fans with lithium batteries must be carried on person and cannot be checked in. Power banks are limited to two units and must be carried on person; they cannot be used or charged during the flight.

In addition, Taoyuan International Airport Corporation announced that this summer, the airport will host the "Light of the Islands, National Gate Voyage" art and cultural series in the terminals, featuring a series of performances including music, dance, circus, and cross-disciplinary shows.
