Body of Ukrainian woman suspected in Monaco bombing found near Kyiv

(CNA Kyiv, July 7 - Reuters) - A Ukrainian woman suspected of carrying out a bomb attack on a Ukrainian-born businessman in Monaco last week was found shot dead near the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Ukrainska Pravda reported today.

Law enforcement sources cited by Ukrainska Pravda said the woman was shot dead and her body was discovered around 11 p.m. last night (8 p.m. GMT).

The explosion occurred in Monaco on June 29, and the perpetrator fled. Sources said businessman Vadym Yermolaiev, who was born in Ukraine, his partner, and son were injured in the blast.

Monaco's deputy prosecutor said last week that the suspect fled Monaco on foot after the attack, heading to neighboring France, and then drove through several European countries including Italy before fleeing to Germany.

According to a Red Notice issued by Interpol, Anastasiia Berezovska, 39, is the main suspect. She is a Ukrainian national who speaks German. She is wanted by Monaco authorities on charges including attempted murder, placing an explosive device in a public place with criminal intent, and criminal conspiracy.

Another law enforcement source cited by Ukrainska Pravda said two suspects have been detained in connection with the case, one of whom is an officer from the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, and the other a former law enforcement officer. Ukrainian police and the Main Intelligence Directorate did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Reuters noted that Yermolaiev obtained Cypriot citizenship in 2019 and was included in Ukraine's sanctions list in 2023. Ukrainian media reported that this was related to his business dealings in Russian-occupied Crimea. (Compiled by Yang Chao-yen) 1150707
