(CNA Taipei, July 7) Chinese state media Xinhua News Agency reported that a landslide occurred in Dangchang County, Longnan City, Gansu Province this morning, resulting in 5 deaths and 12 people trapped so far.
The landslide occurred around 6:56 AM in Rencang Village, Nanhe Town, Dangchang County, Longnan City, burying a total of 33 people. Rescue personnel have found a cumulative total of 21 trapped individuals, of whom 5 died after rescue efforts failed. Rescuers are making every effort to search for the remaining 12 trapped individuals.
A staff member from the Nanhe Town government in Dangchang County told Chinese media Red Star News that the exact location of the incident was Baxiangou, Rencang Village. According to preliminary understanding, the buried workers were temporary forest clearing workers hired by a local forest farm, equivalent to a third-party contractor, responsible for clearing杂树 (miscellaneous trees) and other debris in the forest area.
