(Central News Agency Reporter Li Ya-wen Taipei, 7th) Yaita Akio, CEO of the Indo-Pacific Strategy Think Tank, was attacked in Taichung yesterday. The Mainland Affairs Council (MACA) stated today that it severely condemns the CCP's cross-border suppression of Taiwan and that the government will investigate strictly with no mercy.
The Mainland Affairs Council (MACA) issued a press release on the evening of the 7th, calling on the CCP to "abandon these barbaric tactics and learn to communicate and dialogue with Taiwan in a civilized manner."
MACA stated that Yaita Akio was attacked by a suspect surnamed Liao from Hong Kong on the 6th. The Cross-border Suppression Countermeasure Task Force was activated immediately. Through inter-agency cooperation, the suspect's identity and whereabouts were identified in a very short period of time, and suspect Liao was intercepted at the boarding gate and arrested.
MACA stated that this case is the first cross-border suppression case against Taiwan since the CCP's "Law on the Promotion of Ethnic Unity and Progress" came into effect. The government severely condemns and protests the CCP's deliberate selection of a symbolic case to implement long-arm jurisdiction and cross-border suppression. Taiwan will stand on the front line of the democratic camp and firmly resist the CCP's bullying and infringement of Taiwan's sovereignty and human rights.
MACA reiterated that the CCP's attempt to silence Taiwanese society through cross-border suppression will absolutely not succeed. The government will severely punish the perpetrators and effectively counter cross-border suppression cases. The ultimate goal of the CCP is to eliminate the Republic of China. We hope that all of society will condemn the CCP's cross-border suppression of Taiwan together. (Editor: Feng Zhao) 1150707
