Taipei, July 7 (CNA) Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim said today that recent events, such as China's launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles into the South Pacific, reflect China's increasingly expanding malicious influence operations globally. She believes everyone is concerned about this, and as stakeholders, we should jointly ensure that China's power is not used to harm the fundamental values and ways of life that we all cherish.

According to a press release from the Presidential Office, Vice President Hsiao made these remarks in her address this morning while receiving a delegation from the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC). She stated that IPAC shares similar ideals and common values and interests with Taiwan in many aspects, and together they are committed to ensuring the continuation of democracy and freedom in the face of various challenges posed by China to Taiwan and around the world.

Vice President Hsiao noted that she was honored to be invited to speak at an IPAC event in Brussels last year, which was deeply meaningful for Taiwan. Taiwan is in an extremely difficult international situation, with China continuously exerting political and economic pressure to isolate Taiwan and coerce other countries into preventing Taiwan's participation in international affairs. Therefore, IPAC's support for Taiwan is even more crucial.

Vice President Hsiao expressed gratitude to Legislators Fan Yun and Chen Chao-ju, who serve as co-chairs of Taiwan's IPAC chapter, for their continuous close exchanges and cooperation with IPAC, which helps international friends and partners with similar ideals gain a better understanding of important issues related to Taiwan.

The Vice President mentioned that she had earlier attended the opening ceremony of the "China In The World 2026" annual conference, jointly organized by civic groups and non-governmental organizations. This event brings together scholars, researchers, civil society organizations, and advocates from home and abroad, and has been holding annual meetings since 2019. In her speech, she pointed out that recent events, including China's launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles into the South Pacific, reflect China's increasingly expanding malicious influence operations globally. She believes everyone is concerned about this, but as stakeholders, we should jointly ensure that China's power is not used to harm the fundamental values and ways of life that we all cherish.

The Vice President stated that these challenges and events once again demonstrate that the international community still has many issues that require joint efforts. This is an endless path, and related challenges will continue to increase as the situation develops. She also thanked IPAC and its members again for continuously promoting relevant resolutions in various national parliaments, speaking out bravely, and standing with Taiwan to face challenges together, letting Taiwan know that it is not alone.
