(Central News Agency, Reporter Wang Shu-fen, Taipei, July 7) The Ministry of Agriculture continued to hold a working meeting of the "Wanli River Landslide Lake Disaster Emergency Response Team" this afternoon. Due to the possibility of heavy rainfall from Typhoon Bavi, the Ministry of Agriculture will issue a landslide lake warning based on rainfall forecasts and typhoon alerts.

The Ministry of Agriculture issued a press release stating that according to the latest monitoring data, the estimated water storage of the Wanli River landslide lake in Hualien is approximately 3.2902 million cubic meters, accounting for 64.51% of the total reservoir capacity of 5.1 million cubic meters. The water level continues to rise steadily, and there are still 11.4 meters remaining before potential overflow.

The Ministry of Agriculture stated that due to the potential for heavy rainfall in the Hualien mountainous areas caused by Typhoon Bavi, leading to the overflow of the landslide lake, the Ministry of Agriculture will issue a yellow alert if the estimated overflow of the landslide lake is expected within 24 hours based on the Central Weather Administration's rainfall forecast, or if the Central Weather Administration issues a sea typhoon warning. A red alert will be issued if overflow is predicted within 12 hours, or if a land typhoon warning is issued.

The Ministry of Agriculture reminds local governments that although the impact of Typhoon Bavi remains uncertain, they should prepare for the worst. This includes disaster prevention for the Wanli River landslide lake and the Matian'an River. Local governments must accurately identify the list of protected households based on the maximum possible impact range and maintain close contact with the protected individuals to facilitate immediate response upon the issuance of a warning. Concurrently, they should implement registration and management for vulnerable groups, disaster relief personnel, and transportation to ensure timely evacuation and shelter.

In addition, in response to the potential issuance of landslide lake warnings, the Water Resources Agency will remove the temporary earth dike for water diversion from the riverbed and close the sluice gates before 5 PM tomorrow.p.m. tomorrow. (Editor: Li Hsi-chang) 1150707
