(Central News Agency, Reporter Huang Li-yun, Taipei, July 7) - Fires caused by 3C device charging are frequent. The Taipei City Fire Department stated today that common causes include prolonged charging of lithium batteries and the use of uncertified rechargeable electrical appliances. The public is reminded to pay attention to 7 key points, such as avoiding dropping lithium batteries, to prevent fires.

The Fire Department issued a press release stating that many people habitually charge their mobile phones, robot vacuums, or power banks before sleeping. While this may seem like a normal charging habit, using uncertified charging equipment or leaving devices unattended for extended periods can lead to fires.

The Fire Department said that past cases have shown that the most common causes of lithium battery-related disasters are prolonged charging and the use of uncertified rechargeable electrical appliances. To prevent lithium battery fires, the public is reminded to pay attention to 7 major points.

The 7 major precautions include: avoiding squeezing, dropping, or colliding lithium batteries, or disassembling and modifying them yourself; not charging or using them in direct sunlight, high temperatures, or humid environments; avoiding charging when unattended, when going out, or during sleep; and keeping the surrounding area clear during charging, not stacking flammable materials, to prevent heat buildup from igniting.

In addition, avoid overcharging or over-discharging to reduce the risk of battery degradation and failure; if the battery appears deformed, swollen, abnormally hot, smoking, or leaking, stop using it immediately and dispose of it properly; finally, purchase products with the commodity inspection mark and follow the operating instructions carefully.

The Fire Department urges the public to raise their awareness, implement safe charging practices, and conduct regular checks to effectively prevent lithium battery fires and ensure the safety of life and property. (Editor: Hsiao Po-wen) 1150707
