Encouraging Green Transportation: Taitung to Subsidize NT$12 for First 30 Minutes of YouBike Use

(CNA, reporter Lu Taicheng, Taitung County, July 7) To welcome the summer tourism boom and promote low-carbon travel, the Taitung County Government announced today that starting tomorrow, a public bicycle subsidy program will be launched. Regardless of the type of bicycle rented, users will receive a "NT$12 subsidy for the first 30 minutes," encouraging visitors to make full use of it to explore Taitung.

The Taitung County Government's Transportation Department stated today that major summer events in Taitung will be held consecutively, including "East Expo" from July 3 to August 20, and the "2026 Taiwan International Balloon Festival" from July 4 to August 20. A large number of visitors are expected, and traffic control will be implemented around major event venues and popular attractions.

The Transportation Department suggested that to avoid traffic jams and the hassle of finding parking spaces, the public should adopt a transfer mode of "public transportation + public bicycle." This not only makes travel more flexible but also effectively diverts traffic flow around the event venues.

The Transportation Department added that those wishing to visit East Expo can take the shuttle bus from the Taitung Transfer Station. YouBike stations are also located near each exhibition area, making it convenient for the public to connect between various downtown venues and flexibly arrange their downtown culinary tours.

For tourists planning to visit the Balloon Festival in Yong'an Village, Luye Township, drivers can park their vehicles at the Longtian Grand Lawn or Yong'an Exhibition and Sales Center in Yong'an Village and then ride a YouBike. Those using public transportation can utilize the Luye Station to slowly explore the Longtian Green Tunnel and Luye Shrine by YouBike.

For those who wish to cycle up to Luye Highland, the Transportation Department reminds them to depart from Luye Station and travel along Provincial Highway 9, which has a gentler and safer road condition, and then connect to Gaotai Road (approximately 5.7 kilometers). They should avoid mistakenly entering steep industrial roads.

The Transportation Department stated that starting on the 8th, a public bicycle subsidy program will be launched. Regardless of the type of bicycle rented, users will receive a "NT$12 subsidy for the first 30 minutes." This is equivalent to the first 30 minutes of YouBike 2.0 use being free for the public in Taitung. If choosing the labor-saving YouBike 2.0E electric-assist bicycle, the first 30 minutes will only cost NT$13 out-of-pocket.
