AI Actress Debuts First Feature Film Nearly 1 Year After Launch

(Taipei, July 7, 2025, CNA) Virtual "actress" Tilly Norwood, whose 2025 autumn debut sparked backlash in Hollywood, has finally landed her first starring role in a feature film, her creative team announced today, potentially marking a breakthrough in her acting career.

According to Agence France-Presse and Variety magazine, Particle 6, the studio behind Norwood, announced today that the entire film will be produced using artificial intelligence (AI), with the collaboration of human screenwriters, technicians, and actors.

The film, tentatively titled "Misaligned," explores the struggle of humans trying to align AI with their values and goals. In the film, Norwood is an AI without a physical body, childhood, or personal life experiences, only able to access the experiences of others. The plot takes a turn when a seductive rogue robot from the dark web incites her to cast aside her limitations and begin developing her own desires, impulses, and ambitions, making her more human.

Eline van der Velden, CEO and founder of Particle 6, stated, "AI can indeed assist in producing high-quality narrative films, but it requires a significant amount of human craftsmanship, experience, judgment, and time investment. This is not a limitation of technology, and that's precisely the point."

She added, "The most successful filmmakers of the next decade will be those who bring years of narrative instinct to new tools. 'Misaligned' embodies this philosophy on a feature film scale."

A spokesperson for Particle 6 told AFP that discussions about theatrical or streaming release, or a specific release date, are premature.

Hollywod unions and A-list actors, including Scarlett Johansson and Cate Blanchett, have repeatedly called for restrictions on the use of AI and generative technology in copyrighted artistic works without explicit authorization. (Compiled by Tsai Chia-min) 1150707
