Labor Film Carnival Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Director Hou Chi-jan as Spokesperson

(CNA Taipei, July 8) The "2026 Labor Film Carnival" is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and the call for entries for the Labor Film Awards competition has begun. Director Hou Chi-jan has been appointed as the event's spokesperson, inviting the public and professional filmmakers to document labor scenes through their lenses, thereby drawing attention to labor rights issues.

The "2026 Labor Film Carnival," organized by the Taipei City Department of Labor and undertaken by the Taipei Film and Television Workers Union, marks its 20th anniversary this year. It is the only film event in the country that has been held continuously for 20 years with labor issues at its core. Hou Chi-jan has been invited as this year's spokesperson. According to a press release from the organizers, Hou Chi-jan expressed his delight in participating in this meaningful event and believes that every profession has stories worth being seen.

Hou Chi-jan, serving as the spokesperson for the "2026 Labor Film Carnival" for the first time, stated that what attracts him most is the opportunity to encounter many work and life stories through the event that he would not have previously explored in depth.

He admitted that every industry has its unique appearance and value, and film is an important medium for people to understand each other better. He looks forward to seeing more life stories from different industries through this opportunity, allowing the laborers who silently support the operation of society to be understood and seen by more people through film.

When asked about his second career choice, Hou Chi-jan laughed and said that if he were to stop making movies one day, he would most want to try being a driver. "I feel like I could go to many places I never imagined."
