(CNA, Tainan, July 8) Nikko Mayor Tetsuo Se and other representatives visited Tainan City and met with Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che yesterday. Huang Wei-che announced that to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Tainan City and Nikko City, a road in Yongkang District has been named 'Nikko Street'.

The Tainan City Government issued a press release today stating that Nikko Mayor Tetsuo Se, Speaker Kimihiro Wada, and a citizen delegation of 69 people visited Tainan City. Among them, a group of 10 official personnel met with Huang Wei-che yesterday and received a sincere welcome. Huang Wei-che also expressed gratitude to Nikko City and Tainan City for jointly promoting the 'Attraction Reciprocity Program,' fostering mutual visits and exchanges, and deepening their friendship.

Huang Wei-che also announced that a road in Yongkang District has been named 'Nikko Street.' Huang Wei-che presented a copy of the approved official document to Tetsuo Se as a memento, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two cities and looking forward to more diverse exchanges and cooperation in fields such as sports, education, and culture in the future.

Tetsuo Se said that after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Nikko City's tourism industry was hit hard. At that time, Tainan City organized a delegation of 300 citizens to visit Nikko, providing practical support for the local tourism recovery. He stated that he led the citizen delegation to Tainan this time hoping to support Tainan through tourism exchanges, jointly promoting local revitalization and fostering prosperous development through exchanges.

The city government explained that Nikko City is located in the northwest of Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, and boasts the World Cultural Heritage site 'Toshogu Shrine,' the famous 'Kinugawa Onsen' hot spring, and the 'Nikko Sugi Namiki' (cedar avenue) listed in the Guinness World Records. Since January of this year, Tainan citizens holding their ID cards or citizen cards can enjoy exclusive ticket discounts at the 'Ashio Copper Mine Sightseeing' and 'Heike no Sato' attractions in Nikko.
