(CNA, reporter Hsiao Po-yang, Nantou County, July 8) A landslide at kilometer 3.3 of Provincial Highway 95 in Xinyi Township recently blocked access to the Dongpu Hot Springs area. After repairs, the road has reopened. In anticipation of Typhoon Bavi's approach, the Nantou County Government plans to preemptively close the road on the evening of July 10 and will decide whether to reopen it on the morning of July 12 based on road and weather conditions.
Chang Hung-yueh, Director of the Nantou County Government Public Works Department, and Chuan Chih-chien, Xinyi Township Mayor, led teams from the county and township governments today to inspect the area and discuss flood control preparations, traffic control, and alternative routes. The Public Works Department stated that a landslide and falling rocks occurred at kilometer 3.3 of Provincial Highway 95 in July. After repairs, the road reopened and is currently under traffic control. Road users are asked to cooperate with instructions and pay attention to driving safety.
The Public Works Department indicated that considering the potential for increased disaster due to rainfall from Typhoon Bavi, the county government plans to implement a preemptive road closure starting at 8:00 PM on July 10, coinciding with the issuance of a land typhoon warning. A decision on whether to reopen the road will be made at 8:00 AM on July 12 after on-site inspections and assessment of weather conditions. During the closure, traffic information will be disseminated via variable message signs and on-site notices to guide road users to alternative routes.
The Public Works Department stated that the county government has completed preparations for repair personnel and equipment, and will install facilities to protect against falling rocks, strengthen vigilance on alternative routes and in villages, and coordinate with the Agriculture and Rural Development Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture to expedite slope restoration projects. The public is urged to avoid mountainous areas during the typhoon and to pay attention to the latest road control information to jointly ensure driving safety. (Editor: Lung Po-an) 1150708
