TAIPEI (CNA) - As Typhoon Bavi gradually approaches Taiwan, the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) and its branch offices will begin issuing passports for afternoon collection starting at 10:30 AM on July 9, and passports for full-day collection on July 10 will be issued from 1:30 PM onwards. Collection services will be extended until 6:00 PM.

The Central Weather Administration stated that according to the current predicted path, a sea typhoon warning for the severe typhoon Bavi will be issued as early as tomorrow afternoon, followed by a land typhoon warning late tomorrow night to early morning on July 10.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) issued a press release in the afternoon stating that in response to the approaching Typhoon Bavi, the Bureau of Consular Affairs and the MOFA's Central, Southern, Eastern, and Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan branch offices will issue passports early on July 9, and extend collection services until 6:00 PM on that day. Citizens planning to travel abroad during the typhoon's impact period are strongly advised to collect their passports in advance.

MOFA explained that for regular applications, passports available for collection on the afternoon of July 9 will be issued starting at 10:30 AM on July 9. Passports available for collection for the full day of July 10 will be issued from 1:30 PM on July 9. For expedited applications with urgent travel needs, applications submitted and paid for before 3:00 PM on July 9 can be collected at 5:30 PM.

MOFA stated that if there is a need for emergency assistance during a suspension of work, and citizens urgently require a temporary passport, they should contact other BOCA offices or MOFA branch offices that are not suspending work for assistance, or call the emergency contact center at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Office (phone: 0800-085095).
