(CNA, Yilan, July 8) Yilan County is investigating the case of excessive levels of the carcinogen benzopyrene in Chung Lien's "Soybean Salad Oil." The Health Bureau announced today that a total of 7 downstream businesses have been affected, with 702 liters of oil recalled and 63,000 kilograms of affected food products removed from shelves. The recall of products shipped from these businesses is currently underway.

Xu Nai-wei, Director of the Yilan County Health Bureau, stated in a press release that to ensure the contaminated oil did not enter the market, the Health Bureau simultaneously inspected major sales channels, restaurants, manufacturers, and night market food vendors. To date, 201 businesses have been inspected, and no related problematic products are currently on shelves. Furthermore, no businesses were found to have used oil from the affected batches. The Health Bureau will continue to enforce food safety standards and make every effort to protect the food safety of county residents.

Lin Mao-sheng, Acting Magistrate of Yilan County, emphasized that there is no room for compromise when it comes to food safety, and problematic products must be removed immediately. He has instructed the Health Bureau to supervise businesses in completing the relevant recall operations and to confirm that all affected products have been disposed of according to regulations.
