(CNA Munich, 8th, Reuters) German police said a school attack in the southern German state of Bavaria today injured several people. A suspect has been arrested.

Agence France-Presse reported that a police spokesperson told AFP that the suspect appeared to have deliberately targeted the school in a suspected "random attack." The number of injured and the severity of their injuries are not yet known.

Police stated that the incident occurred at the Welfen grammar school in Schongau, a town north of the Alps, and urged the public to avoid the area.

Local police posted on social media platform X: "A suspect has been arrested. Police are carrying out a large-scale operation, with a significant police presence at the scene."

While serious violent incidents in German schools are relatively rare, they have occurred.

Last year, a 17-year-old stabbed a 45-year-old teacher at a vocational college in the western city of Essen. The suspect was injured by gunfire before being arrested by police.

In 2002, a 19-year-old gunman opened fire at a school in the eastern city of Erfurt, killing 16 people, including 12 teachers and 2 students. (Compiled by: He Hongru) 1150708
