(Central News Agency, reporter Cai Mengyu, Kaohsiung, July 8) To improve the perennial flooding and foul odor issues around the popular tourist destination "Kezailiao Fishing Port" in Kaohsiung, the city government's Water Resources Bureau announced today that it has commenced drainage improvement works. The main construction is currently completed, and acceptance testing is expected to be finished by the end of July.
Due to years of use, the drainage side ditches in the system road sections around Kezailiao Fishing Port have been severely damaged. Accumulated silt and debris have obstructed water flow, frequently causing unsanitary conditions and foul odors during hot weather or rainy seasons, severely impacting the lives of local residents, the operations of the Fishermen's Association, and weekend tourist crowds.
To address the flooding and foul odor problems around Kezailiao Fishing Port, the city government's Water Resources Bureau is undertaking the "Zihguan District Fishing Port 2nd Road Drainage Improvement Project." The Water Resources Bureau stated in a press release today that the project budget is NT$2.96 million. The main construction is currently completed, and acceptance testing is expected to be finished by the end of July.
The Water Resources Bureau explained that for Fishing Port 2nd Road, which serves the Kezailiao Fish Direct Sales Center and the Zihguan District Fishermen's Association, the project involves comprehensively renovating damaged structures, expanding the drainage cross-section, and optimizing road connections. These measures aim to enhance the flood control drainage system and permanently resolve the foul odor, maximizing flood prevention and environmental improvement during the flood season.
The project includes improving approximately 80 meters of roadside drainage ditches along Fishing Port 2nd Road in Zihguan District, installing one collection well along the route, and adjusting the elevation of the existing side ditch bottom to ensure smooth drainage.
For other road sections, comprehensive silt removal will be carried out, and the existing ditch covers will be replaced at intervals to facilitate subsequent dredging operations, ensuring smooth drainage and maintaining environmental hygiene. (Editor: Zhang Yajing) 1150708
