(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 8) Taiwanese professional baseball team TSG Hawks' "closer" Lin Shih-hsiang has been diagnosed with a torn elbow ligament and tendon after an examination. The Hawks announced that he will undergo surgical treatment.
The Hawks issued a press release today stating that Lin Shih-hsiang underwent an MRI examination of his right elbow at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital on July 6. Doctors diagnosed a torn ulnar collateral ligament and a torn flexor pronator mass tendon in his right elbow. After discussion between the attending physician and the team, it was decided that surgery would be performed.
The Hawks stated that they will provide full support for Lin Shih-hsiang's surgery arrangements and postoperative rehabilitation plan. Lin Shih-hsiang also conveyed a message to the fans through the team: "Thank you all for your concern. Facing this difficulty, I will still maintain a positive and proactive attitude. I will return with a stronger body to fight alongside everyone again."
Lin Shih-hsiang recorded 30 saves last year, winning both the Save King and Rookie of the Year awards. In the current season, he has appeared in 26 games, achieving 14 saves. However, on July 5, when he took the mound in the 9th inning against the Uni-President Lions, he pitched only 0.2 innings, giving up 2 hits, along with an error and a walk, allowing 1 unearned run before leaving the game with the bases loaded.
