(CNA, reporter Yeh Chen, Taoyuan, July 8) The Taoyuan Branch of the Ministry of Justice's Executive Branch Administration yesterday auctioned virtual currencies, Tether and Ether, involved in a money laundering case investigated by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office. The auction was met with enthusiastic response, fetching a total of NT$667,600. The next virtual currency auction will be held in August.
The Taoyuan Branch stated that the virtual currencies auctioned yesterday included one case of 1211.8 Tether coins and 0.30514887 Ether coins, which after 9 bids from 4 bidders, were sold for NT$54,600. Another case involved the auction of 19,328.8 Tether coins, which after 21 bids, were finally sold for NT$613,000.
The Taoyuan Branch announced that virtual currencies will be available for purchase at the joint auction in August. The properties that were not sold in this auction, including a brand-new 5-story elevator townhouse in Guanyin District, a 2nd-floor apartment in an older building on Jianguo East Road in Taoyuan District, a high-rise apartment in a prime area of Zhongli District, and a residence in Luzhu District near Xuyuan Fishing Port, will be re-auctioned.
