Taipei, July 8 (CNA) Taiwanese women's tennis player Hsieh Su-wei, nicknamed "The Steel Hammer," and her Japanese partner Shuko Aoyama, defeated the Australian-Dutch pair of Ellen Perez and Demi Schuurs 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships women's doubles today, marking their second consecutive Grand Slam semifinal appearance.

Hsieh, 25, standing at 158 cm, and Aoyama, 38, at 154 cm, have formed a formidable "Ground Tiger Combination" this year. They reached the semifinals at the French Open, achieving Hsieh's best Grand Slam doubles result, and have now matched that achievement this week at Wimbledon.

Hsieh and Aoyama, seeded 13th in the Wimbledon women's doubles, faced the 9th-seeded Australian-Dutch duo of Ellen Perez and Demi Schuurs.

In the first set, the first eight games saw both pairs break each other's serve once, leading to a 4-4 tie. In the crucial 9th game, on Perez and Schuurs' serve, the Taiwanese-Japanese pair successfully broke serve on their third break point opportunity to take a vital lead.

In the subsequent 10th game, Hsieh and Aoyama held serve after securing their second set point, clinching the first set.

The second set mirrored the first, with both pairs breaking each other's serve once in the first eight games, again resulting in a 4-4 tie. In the critical 9th game, the Taiwanese-Japanese duo quickly secured two break points at 40-15 and successfully broke serve.

In the decisive 10th game, Hsieh and Aoyama gave their opponents no chance, winning four consecutive points to seal the match point and defeating their opponents in straight sets to advance to the semifinals.

Hsieh and Aoyama delivered an outstanding performance today, committing only 6 unforced errors compared to their opponents' 15, which proved to be the turning point of the match.

Hsieh and Aoyama's opponents in the semifinals will be the second-seeded Canadian cancer survivor Gabriela Dabrowski and Brazilian partner Luisa Stefani. (Editor: Yang Chao-yen) 1150708
