(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 8) Regarding the contamination incident of Chung Lien soybean cooking oil with excessive levels of benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), Minister of Finance Chuang Tsui-yun stated today that the ministry will provide full assistance and proactively contact the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) to see if real-time invoice data is needed for traceability through the "Food Cloud."
At the Finance Committee of the Legislative Yuan today, the review of the attached unit budgets for the business portion of the central government's general budget for fiscal year 2026 was scheduled, concerning the Land Bank of Taiwan Co., Ltd., the Government Printing Office, and the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation, all under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance.
During questioning, KMT legislator Lin Te-fu noted that electronic invoice and business tax sales/purchase details can track the flow of the food supply chain. He urged the Ministry of Finance to use this to fully assist the MOHW in clarifying the flow of problematic cooking oil.
Chuang Tsui-yun explained that the Ministry of Finance and the MOHW already have an interface for the "Food Cloud." Data on upstream and downstream businesses is provided on the 18th of each month, allowing the MOHW to conduct traceability, including tracking who the purchasers and sellers are.
Chuang Tsui-yun emphasized that food safety is a critical issue for both the public and the government. In addition to regular provision of data for upstream and downstream tracking via invoices to relevant government departments, real-time data can also be supplied. The Ministry of Finance will proactively contact the MOHW to offer assistance. (Editor: Yang Kai-hsiang) 1150708
