(Central News Agency, Washington, July 7, Comprehensive Foreign News) US media Axios reported today that after additional testing and evaluation by the US government, OpenAI is expected to receive approval from the Department of Commerce to widely promote its GPT-5.6 model.

Washington has strengthened its review of whether advanced AI models should be allowed for broad release to prevent AI technology from being misused by military and intelligence agencies in China, Russia, or other countries.

US President Donald Trump issued an executive order in June requiring the establishment of a voluntary framework for companies to undergo up to 30 days of evaluation by the US government before officially releasing advanced AI models. This means companies should adopt a phased approval and gradual release strategy under US government supervision.

OpenAI stated last month that at the request of the US government, it had postponed the full rollout of GPT-5.6 and submitted relevant information to the authorities.

Today's report quoted sources familiar with the matter as saying that OpenAI is expected to complete further testing this week, and company executives will proceed with a wider rollout of GPT-5.6 after meeting with US government officials.

According to the report, this testing was conducted by the Department of Commerce's Center for AI Standards and Innovation, with OpenAI dispatching technical experts to Washington to answer various inquiries.

Reuters could not immediately verify the report. OpenAI, the White House, and the Department of Commerce have not yet responded to Reuters' requests for comment. (Compiled by Ji Jin-ling) 1150708
